Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

  • What is weight loss coaching?

Weight loss coaching is the use of personal coaching techniques to bring about long-term weight loss. I help you to identify which weight loss skills work for you and help you develop habits based on these skills.

I work with you to establish what beliefs, values and rules you have around food and eating. I show you how let go of those that are holding you back and create new empowering ones.

I help you set realistic goals for weight loss and develop a plan with you to attain the goals. This plan includes actions, milestones and target dates. Progress is reviewed weekly.

It is not just food that leads to weight gain. Exercise has long been associated with weight management but less known associations like sleep and stress have also been shown to affect the body's ability to lose weight. Therefore, I will help you include these vital elements in your plan as well.

  • What is the difference between Coaching and Counselling?

The difference between coaching and counselling is that counselling focuses on some past significant event seeking to resolve feelings by revisiting it and attempting to deal with it. Coaching focuses on acceptance of the way things are now, the removal of thoughts and feelings that are holding you back and taking action to move forward to a happy and fulfilling life.

The intention is always to focus on your best interests by moving forward positively. If I feel that something is holding you back that may need counselling to resolve I will say so and we can then either pause or end coaching until it is resolved.

  • What main assumptions does Coaching make?

    • You already have everything you need to succeed.

    • You are not broken and therefore do not need fixing.

  • How is coaching delivered?

All my one to one coaching is delivered online via Zoom. I have a dedicated meeting room which you will receive the link to. I will call you at our regular weekly meeting time.

  • Is there a diet/food plan?

No, my weight loss coaching does not involve a menu plan nor a prescribed diet. The plan is driven by the you, it is tailored to you and not a generic plan. I do not tell you what to eat nor how to eat. That is for the you to determine once you have developed your plan based on what works for you. I do encourage eating food in as close to its natural state as possible and eating a wide range of food without eliminating any particular food groups unless prescribed by a doctor or dietitian.

    • Set your goals for you

    • Solve your problems for you

    • Judge you

  • What do you do?

    • Complete the full course

    • Take responsibility for your life

    • Open your mind to whatever comes up

    • Give your full commitment to the process

    • Make time for your coaching sessions and the work in between

    • Look forward to achieving more than the goal that you set. The impact on your whole life and especially your relationships will be enormous.

  • What are some things that will affect your success?

    Your success depends primarily on:

    • how much time and effort you put in

    • how honest you are willing to be with yourself

    • how much responsibility you are willing to take for your life

  • What will you need?

    • Time – an hour for each session (uninterrupted) and one to two hours for the work to be completed in-between sessions, excluding time for exercise. Exercise time will vary from person to person.

    • Place – somewhere quiet and private. Although coaching is not counselling it is a form of personal growth and as such it requires that you look inward. It can bring out personal stuff which you may not want to share with anyone else.

    • Reliable internet connection.

    • Printer.

    • Commitment – Coaching can be intense, challenging and sometimes uncomfortable but immensely rewarding. You get out what you put in and then some, but the putting in comes before the getting out!
